MEMORANDUM ON THE PRESENT POSITION OF .

ST. PETER'S CHURCH. WEST POINT.

On Monday March 13th., 1971, the Bishop of Victoria met

Committee of the Sailors' Home and informed them: –

(a). That he had collected in England a certain

sum towards the salary of a Chaplain to the

merchant seamen in Hongkong and had appointed

Rev. E Talbot to the post.

(b). That he had received from the largesson family in memory of their brother the sum of £300 wherewith to open a fund for the erection of a Seamen's Church in Hongkong.

(o). That he would be able to add £200 further to the

fund if immediate arrangements were made for

building the Church.

As a result of this statement, the Committee of the Sailors' Home decided to form a STAMEN'S CHURCH COMMITIES to promote

the erection of a Seamen's Church, The Committee included besides members of the Sailors' Home Committee, the Bishop of Victoria as Chairman together with Archdeacon Gray and the Rev. Thomas Talbot (Secretary).

The first meeting of thị Church Committee was held on Friday Maroh 24th, 1871. The following resolutions among others were

passed:-

(1). That the Trustees of the Sailors' Home be requested to address a letter to His Excellency the Lieut-Governor,

informing him that they have agreed to apportion a certain plot of ground made over te them for the purposes of the Sailors's Home, to be devoted for the
